Smart Living, Built In: Why We Plan Automation From Day One

Most people meet home automation the hard way — after the villa is finished, when adding smart lighting or climate control means chasing walls, pulling new cable and compromising on what's actually possible. It works, but it's never as clean, as reliable, or as capable as it could have been.

At GRAS Smart Living we take the opposite approach: automation is planned in from the first drawing, coordinated alongside the MEP works, and delivered by the same team that builds the house.

Why "designed in" beats "bolted on"

When automation is part of the base design, three things change:

  • Infrastructure is right the first time. Cable routes, back-boxes and control panels are set out with the electrical works — no retrofit, no compromise.
  • Systems talk to each other. Lighting, climate, security and audio-visual are planned as one system on a common KNX backbone, not stitched together from incompatible products.
  • One team owns the result. Because GRAS delivers construction, MEP and automation together, there's no finger-pointing between trades when something needs to be commissioned.

The GRAS Smart Living standard

We work to open, certified standards so your home isn't locked to a single vendor:

  • KNX for lighting, blinds and climate control
  • DALI for addressable, tunable lighting
  • Integrated ELV — CCTV, access control, networking and AV

The result is a home that feels effortless to live in and straightforward to maintain — technology that serves the architecture rather than fighting it.

Thinking about a new build or a renovation where smart living matters? Talk to us early — the best time to plan automation is before the first cable is pulled.
